even if they had, why do it? they don’t seem particularly unhappy about their jobs, the show has seen an increase in budget over the seasons, and the amount of merch they’re constantly putting out tells me they’re actually making some money, even if it goes into their budget and not their pockets. plus they got those sweet deals with amazon and hulu so all in all bfu is thriving where it is? why leave?
I may be totally wrong on this bc I actually don’t know much about buzzfeed at all—I didn’t even know they had shows until I got around to watching bfu—but from seeing people leave in this time I’ve been following stuff there, it seems to me like bf may be that first bump in your career as videomaker. you get to produce your own stuff with professional cameras and whatnot, you get guaranteed views given the nature of buzzfeed as a producer of viral content, you get to know the ins and outs of marketing, sponsoring, gets access to actors and people willing to be in front of the camera 24/7… I mean, it’s the perfect learning ground for that first leap after college. when you know enough, or when you know what path you want to take with your art, you leave to find better opportunities. it’s not that deep, I don’t think?
also as levy pointed our in her tags, buzzfeed is actually quite diverse from what we can tell—it’s not like poc and qpoc have a world of open doors outside just waiting for them to ditch bf. imo the more experience and the more content they produce under buzzfeed’s wings, the better their chances are of getting out of there with more opportunities than when they came in.
(this isn’t supposed to come off as douchey or like I know more than anyone!! I’m just offering my two cents and I’m Very Tired so maybe nothing here makes sense and I apologize for that)
